Hear Foot Soldier

August 29 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

A message from resident Dawn Walker:

Hello All,

Many of you might have heard about my Civil Rights tour to Alabama in June and visiting the museums in Montgomery and Birmingham.  It was incredible and every human being should visit these museums.  The highlight, however, was visiting the Brown Chapel in Selma and hearing from a living foot soldier named Linda Holmes.  She was 11 years old when she sat in the congregation and heard Martin Luther King Jr. preach.  She was there when the other foot soldiers crossed the Edmund Pettus bridge to fight for voting and civil rights.

I invited her and her husband to be my guests in Asheville and they have accepted and will be here in two weeks over Labor Day weekend.  During their visit, they have agreed to speak about their experiences growing up in Selma in the 60s on August 29th from 5pm to 6:30.

Graciously, Black Wall Street has offered their event space at no cost for this event.  Please see the orange link below within that poster.
And huge thanks to Aisha Adams for making this happen.

Please invite your family and friends and pass on this link to anyone else who you feel might have interest in hearing first hand from a woman who was there during this critical historic time.

Mr. and Mrs. Holmes, as stewards of the Brown Chapel, are actively attempting to raise money for the renovation of Brown Chapel.
If you can give anything, there will be a collection plate at the event or please feel free to give generously at https://www.brownchapelame.org.  There is a donation button at the bottom of the front page.

I look forward to see you all there.  Room capacity will be approx 100 people get your free tickets by clicking this eventbrite link.
